Asia Argento, born in Rome to a household that includes actors and directors, pursued both professions. Her debut came at the age of nine years old in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni (1985). Her absorbed, intense acting style is well-known in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau was her director in Queen Margot the film, in which she was the main character. In 1995, Asia collaborated with Michel Piccoli to produce Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion, for which she won a David di Donatello. Asia began directing short films in 1994. The two she directed were Prospettive in 1996. She directed a documentary about her father; and Abel/Asia, 1998, on the legendary director Abel Ferrara. This latter was recognized at the Rome Film Festival. Asia was first introduced as a director of feature in Scarlet Diva (2000). In this film, she played the role of a lead actor and also wrote the screenplay. It was released on May 20, 2000 both in Italy as well as throughout the globe. It was also released in Brooklyn, New York it received an award from the Williamsburg film festival. After directing a number of music videos, she gave birth to her first child, Anna Lou. In 2002, she was involved in The Red Siren directed by Olivier Megaton and starred alongside Jean-Marc Barr. Rob Cohen also directed the action thriller featuring Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of numerous stories that have been published in a variety of famous magazines.
