When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her research in marine biology at Anchorage from Alaska Pacific University. Bossard launched her career as a seafood commercial worker in 1999. She began to work with the ship F/V Sunset a 65' halibut-schooner and was later converted into a tender for salmon in the name of Murat Aritan. She worked in commercial fishing since. Bossard is currently is married to Aritan and they have united to make their rights to the industry. Both are advocates of preserving sustainable and renewable marine resources. Otolith opened its direct market wholesale distributor in Philadelphia in the year Bossard was able to return from at home with her daughters, Bella 3 years old and Andre one, and Andre 1, to Philadelphia. The name Otolith is a fond reminder of Bossard's intimate understanding of the biology of fish and her husband's many connections in the industry of seafood. It is common for them to be separated for up to 5 months in a row while they pursue sustainable and financial goals that reflect their commitment to their independence no matter where they reside. Bossard along with their son Andre and daughter Isabella are scheduled to return to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the harvest of wild salmon. For two months, Bossard, along with her daughter Isabella utilize hooks and lines to fish for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their fish for processing locally.
